International Application Checklist
The Virginia Tech Office of Undergraduate Admissions must receive the following supporting materials to ensure your application file is complete:
- Completed Common Application for international applicants: The application opens in early August. Deadlines and decision plans for international students are the same as those of domestic students.
- Application Fee: A non-refundable fee of $70 for all international students applying for admission must be submitted. Your application will not be processed without this fee. Students who apply online are required to pay the application fee electronically with either a debit or credit card (MasterCard, Visa or Discover).
- SAT Reasoning Test or ACT Scores (Optional for international applicants): Virginia Tech’s CEEB code is 5859; the ACT code is 4420. For additional details, see the requirements page.
- Verification of English Language Proficiency: Applicants whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Pearson Test for English (PTE) or Duolingo English Test, or submit another accepted exam or coursework. To have your TOEFL score automatically sent to Virginia Tech, please specify Virginia Tech’s CEEB code (5859) on the test form. Scores need to be received in our office by December 1 for Early Action and January 31 for Regular Decision. For additional details, see the requirements page.
- Educational Information: International applicants may submit a Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) or upload copies of all high school transcripts/marksheets and exam results to their applicant portal or Common App. Whether using the SRAR or uploading documents, all coursework and exams for years 9-11 should be included as well as any in-progress courses or predicted exam results. The deadline to submit the SRAR or all required high school transcripts/mark sheets is December 1 for Early Action and January 31 for Regular Decision applicants.
- High school graduates: Students who have completed secondary school or high school at the time of application must submit copies of their diplomas or school leaving certificates and final high school transcripts showing grades/exams for years 9-12.
- Transcript/Statement of Marks: This contains the record of courses studied, marks (grades) awarded, length of class periods, and grading scale with minimum passing mark. These must be submitted for upper secondary or high school years and must be complete for applicants who have graduated from school. For those applicants who are still enrolled in school, the transcript, or statement of marks, must show the most current term of grades to date. The transcript must be an original copy, certified by the sending institution.
- NOTE: If you have completed all four years of high school in the US, you are required to report all coursework/grades and test scores on the SRAR at nihonnkazamidori.com/admissions/srar.
- International Transfer Applicants must submit, in addition to those materials already listed, the following educational documents:
- Official copy of high school record or transcripts. If not English, a certified English translation is required.
- Official copy of college or university transcripts. If not English, a certified English translation is required.
- NOTE: If you have only attended college in the US, you are required to report all college coursework/grades and test scores on the SRAR at nihonnkazamidori.com/admissions/srar.
- For international students studying outside the United States, a syllabus of each course or subject studied at the university level (including textbook used and author) must be submitted. Applications without this information cannot be considered. Graduates of thirteen-year systems must submit syllabi for their final year of study.
- Evaluation of international college/university transcripts by a professional credential evaluation service. Having this done will aid the Admissions Committee and the University Registrar. A list of recommended agencies can be found in the application instructions here.
- Receipt of all documents required before credit can be awarded.
- Letters of Recommendation are not a part of the Virginia Tech application.
- Completed applications will receive priority in the review process. It is critical to meet the deadlines for your application. The university reserves the right to withdraw, without notice, any application that is not complete by the deadline.
